Hey Godlings! Today we’re super-duper (doodper?) excited to bring you along for a visit to one of the forges of the Mountainous Avatars to check out some weapons! These are the divine tools your Avatar will be wielding boldly in battle against the nefarious forces of Chaos and his army of corrupted boods. The Mountainous Avatars are usually really busy making the weapons, but today we got a special pass to have a sneaky peek~
If you are an Apeiron Planet NFT holder, you’ll see your Avatar’s weapon revealed later this month during our Abiogenesis event. Each Avatar has three different weapon types. The Fury has Axes, Swords, and Hammers; The Wisdom has Orbs, Books, and Staves; and the Commander has Guns, Cannons, and Bows. Weapons will have different rarities — the rarer the weapon, the more power! This post will cover a smattering selection of such weapons, and the exciting tales behind the names.
Un petit reminder that we are smack dab in the middle of the Doodiquest Tell-a-Tale Tournament! Submit to us two branching stories and you could have the chance for your story to be featured as one of our Discord server’s daily Doodiquests…and if your story is really good, you could even win yourself a Primeval Planet NFT. More info on that HERE.
Cool, let’s move right along then and get to some weapons! While we were hanging out in the armory, we asked our Avatar between thunderous hammerclaps, as she beat molten rock into shape, to tell some of the stories of the weapons she had forged. And we were surprised to hear, not all of them were her work. Some were, and she was proud to discuss them. But some of them had been collected from other Avatars. Still others had been found on distant worlds at the very edge of the godiverse…
The first weapon she pulled out to show us was the Gravity Glaive. This large sword seemed to consist of multiple metal blades, but rather than being directly interlinked, various of the blades floated in space! She explained that for this weapon she had twisted the very flow of gravity to keep the form. With a smile of pride, she explained how when you swing it, it strikes with gravitational force behind it. She demonstrated, slicing the weapon at a nearby rock wall — which exploded inwards as the weapon struck. Awe shattering might! We retreated hastily from the flying shards of rock.
The next weapon we picked out was an axe. This one looked almost malformed. It was a double-headed battleaxe with vicious spikes along both blades. The edges of these blades were a toxic green, while the middle of the axe was a bruised purple, with what looked to be a yelling mouth. Seeing us look at it, the Mountainous Avatar launched into a story: “the Fury Avatar who wielded that axe got annoyed when his Doods complained about not being fed enough food and not wanting to battle. His annoyance manifested in this Hangry Axe — a battleaxe which inspires hungry Doods to anger! Hangry is about the closest a Dood can get to battlelust, but it still works. Hangry Doods are a terrible sight to behold…”
Carefully replacing the Hangry Axe, we espied what looked like an eye staring at us — from the center of a hammer. This was the Duskflare Mallet. This had been a collaborative project — a visiting Wisdom Avatar from a Volcanic Planet had brought over a chunk of starlight-infused obsidian to be forged, and they had worked together on it, binding the obsidian in a brace of bronze and gold. Now, when wielded against an enemy, the hammer will “flare” — four arcane flames will burn along the top, and its true power will manifest!
Moving from the armaments of the Fury Avatars, we found a shelf on which were scattered various implements used by Wisdom Avatars. “Hey, psst,” a voice said. We looked up. It wasn’t our Mountainous Avatar guide who had spoken. We saw an ornate turquoise book…with a mouth full of teeth at the bottom of its spine. It smiled at us. “Hey, how ‘bout helpin’ me get outta this joint? I wanna get out there and start slingin’ spells, get the idea?” It was uncanny to watch the book talk. This was the Toothsome Tome, a macabre grimoire of deadly magicks, with an attitude to match. We quickly fled the talking book. “Come back!” It squealed. We did not.
Once we had run a suitable distance, we took another look at the shelf of relics. We picked up an orb. It looked normal enough, at first glance — but as soon as we touched it — it sprung open, revealing spikes of icy blue. It began to spin and float of its own accord in between the palms of our hands. The Winter’s Bite Orb! Famous indeed for its sharp and frosted spikes and channeling wintry magic. While not having the power of a Wisdom, we managed to conjure a single snowflake. It daintily fell to the floor of the forge, where it melted.
Putting the orb aside, we noticed a staff leaning against the side of the shelves. The Mountainous Avatar came up beside us and picked it up gently. “The Pureamber Racket,” she noted with a grin. A smooth design flowing neatly upwards; towards its top it split to form a circle, in the middle of which a small orb levitated. The pureamber was molded to either side of the inner circle, keeping the orb fixed in place. “Infused with pureamber collected from near black holes — the pull of the holes sucks away all impurities. Dangerous to collect, but worth it. This one is great for enhancing magical ability,” she noted, before fondly replacing it next to the shelf. Our gaze rested on it a moment longer. It also looked like it would be great for tennis.
We arrived at the last stop on our tour of the forge, the arsenal. Here the ranged weapons of the Fate Avatars were stored until such a time as they were called upon. The first thing we saw was a MASSIVE cannon wrapped in sapphire and gold. “A very famous cannon, that one,” our guide told us. “The Lightfall Cannon. The Fate Avatar who used it was surrounded by darkness. His world was being consumed by Chaos’s taint. He could feel himself being corrupted. So he fired one last shot from his cannon. And his hopes, his dreams for the future, they went into the cannon at that moment. The Fate died that day. But his spirit lives on in this cannon. And for a time, Chaos was pushed back.” She sighed. We shivered at the thought of Chaos’ corruption.
Leaving the Lightfall Cannon behind, we saw rack upon rack of bows. One of them was a deep azure, with silvery-gold trim, and three floating stars hovering behind its tip. Picking it up briefly, we could sense a deep sadness emanating from the weapon’s heart. A tear ran down our cheek. It was the Bow of Broken Dreams. Whoever carried this weapon would walk a lonely road. It was the only one they would ever know. But it would be a home to them, until someone found them, and then the bow would disappear, for it was drawn to the souls of the lonely…
Finally, we found a corner of the arsenal devoted to guns. There were many impressive firearms for Fate Avatars to choose from, sharp guns that could also be used at close-quarters, guns with rubies gleaming with dragonfire magic, as well as…huh. We looked over at a corner at a gun that looked rather…simple? Unadorned? It was a dull gray color, with little to no ornamentation. We picked it up. Pointing it at the ceiling, we started to pull the trigger. “NNNNOOOOOOOO!” The Mountainous Avatar leapt into the room and snatched the gun from our hands. We looked up inquiringly. The Mountainous Avatar appeared to be…afraid. She was huffing and puffing. “This…this Suspiciously Normal Blaster is glamored to look normal. But it isn’t. Oh Cosmos, it isn’t.” She wouldn’t say anything more about it.
After that incident with the gun, we were promptly told that enough was enough, and that the tour was over. So that was about as much as we saw, and we are happy to report it to you. Did you enjoy it? One of these weapons could be summoned to your Avatar’s side in the coming Abiogenesis event! Which one would you want? Let us know!
