Greetings! Hello! Welcome! In today’s article introducing Apeiron — the world’s first god game on the blockchain — we’re going to be exploring some of the lore behind the game. We’ll start with a basic introduction to the Apeiron universe, as well as a brief tour of the game’s starting area, the Axis Mundi, the Center of Creation.
In Apeiron, you are a Wandering God in a universe full of life. Well, at least one kind of life: the doods! The doods are small and chubby little fellas who enjoy nothing more than eating, drinking, sleeping, and just generally making merry. They aren’t the smartest, however, and are frequently unable to get out of the holes they dig themselves.
That’s where you come in. With your divine power, you can help! The High Goddess Cosmos has put EDEN’s across the galaxy. These EDEN’s act as conduits for divine power. By channeling your essence into one of these EDENs, you can take over a planet and act as its god. Through cleverly casting Miracles, you can make the doods’ lives infinitely sweeter, and build up an ordered galaxy of ignorant bliss.
But of course, things are never so simple. Arrayed against High Goddess Cosmos is High God Chaos. Chaos despises Cosmos, the EDENs, and the doods. Yet with power only equal to Cosmos, he cannot unmake her holy work. So rather than destroy the EDENs, he has chosen a more insidious path — from the edges of the galaxy, a foul Taint corrupts all the planets it visits.
Those planets and doods touched by the Taint are horribly transformed. Cut off from Cosmos’ order, the doods’ behavior becomes ever more erratic, until they are totally consumed by madness. Similarly, the EDENs of these planets produce corrupted avatars of terrible strength. The Tainted want nothing more than to spread this foul sickness to other worlds, and so they come closer to the Axis Mundi, the Center of Creation, in an ever-growing wave.
High Goddess Cosmos has spent much of her power in ordering the universe through the EDENs, but from her Empyrean Seat above the Great Singularity she called up a great barrier around the Center of Creation. This barrier would become known as the Cosmos Veil, and it sets off the Axis Mundi from the rest of the universe, protecting those within.
The Axis Mundi is where most new players will take their first steps on their journey in the Apeiron universe! Safe from the Taint, you’ll have the chance to get to grips with the gameplay before facing off against the forces of Chaos.
There are several zones that make up the Axis Mundi. At the center of everything is the Great Singularity and Empyrean Seat. Here is where Cosmos makes her home. The High Goddess is often busy making sure that the Veil still holds, but will still make time to occasionally offer advice to new gods, and is certainly worth a visit.
The Great Singularity itself is a whirling “White Hole”, a piercing vortex that serves as the heart of the universe. As it spins, from its depths new worlds, constellations, even galaxies are born. So it is that the Axis Mundi which surrounds the Singularity is a vibrant nebula of life, dense with stars and planets.
Within the Great Singularity is the Singularity Plane. It is a mysterious place outside of normal existence. When a Wandering God first manifests, they often find themselves here, a place which allows them to experiment freely with their new form, consequences be damned.
Besides the Singularity, the oldest part of the Axis Mundi is the Genesis Cluster. These were some of the first planets to be formed in all the universe, and therefore some of the oldest. The avatars on these planets are sure to be powerful, and there may be rare treasures to find in the constellations.
Finally, in order to provide some much needed entertainment both to herself, her entourage, and the doods, High Goddess Cosmos created the Galactic Arena. Here Wandering Gods, inhabiting their avatars and supported by their dood apostles, will challenge each other in holy combat to the cheers of onlookers.
You will find there is much to keep you busy in the Axis Mundi. But eventually you will need to leave and face Chaos. You must drive back the Taint…but perhaps, not everything is as it seems…
We will leave you with this tantalizing tidbit to chew on. So much for this brief primer on the basics of Apeiron lore. In our next piece, we’ll be talking about how this universe of gods — our godiverse, if you will — integrates with the larger blockchain metaverse. Keep in the loop with us by following our Twitter.
