Greetings Godlings! Today we have some exciting news to share: more info on Apeiron’s combat system! We are thrilled to be able to give you a first look at how epic battles play out in the Godiverse. While we were originally hoping to drop a trailer this week, because of the Coronavirus (Cuck Fovid) we have had to push it back to early next week — everything is ready, we’re juusssttt waiting to plug in the music because what’s a battle trailer without some sick beats?! Stay tuned for that! In the meantime, this article shall go over some of the finer points of the fighting you can expect in Apeiron. However, we should note that everything is still in development, and subject to change.
Also, just a quick heads up that the Gallant Guardian Giveaway, the 5th of our 12 NFT Giveaway Gauntlets, launches tomorrow! Be ready to start your quest to summon the tanky Guardian to your party.
So! In Apeiron, you start off on your planet helping the Doods with your divine miracles. No fighting needed here! But once you unlock your Avatar, you get the power to dive into the Manifold Paths of the Dirac Sea, or explore dangerous (treasure packed) Celestial Dungeons, or even fly over to the Galactic Arena. Countless possibilities await you…annnndddd most of them involve fighting.
When you enter combat in Apeiron, you’ll first select which Apostles you want to accompany your Avatar — up to four. Remember that your Avatar will have its own level, stats, and class depending on your planet type and how you’ve developed your planet, so you’ll want to bring a party that complements the skillset of your Avatar. For example, if your Avatar is a Fire-based Fighting class, it will probably be more on the aggressive side, and may benefit from supportive Apostles like the Bard, Mage, or Priest. By Contrast, an Air-based Magic class Avatar may need more frontline support, so the Warrior, Guardian, and Rogue could be more suitable in this case. But the possibilities for teambuilding are endless, and part of the fun — we’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Once you’ve locked in your team, you’re taken onto the battlefield. Your Avatar will tower over the Apostles and the tiny swarms of Doods milling about your feet. Once here, you will only have direct control of your Avatar, which you can move about and take actions with. The Apostles and their supporting crowds of Dood followers will auto-act independently over the course of the fight, carrying out their class actions e.g. a Bard will sing its inspiring tune, buffing nearby allies, while the Warrior piles into close quarters even as the Mage launches spells from the back.
However, you will also have access to a hand of skill cards. These cards will be drawn from your Skill Deck, which is itself composed of skills from both your Avatar and the Apostles you have chosen to fight with you. These skill cards are critical to affecting the flow of battle: a well-timed spell or buff can dramatically shift the tide in your favor. These skill cards will also allow you to direct your Apostles to launch certain powerful abilities at key moments. Have your Mage call down Lightning on the head of the enemy just as it swipes at your Avatar and watch as it sizzles into nothingness, leaving your Avatar gloriously unscathed.
As the battle goes on, you may achieve certain mini-goals — beating back a number of enemies, or crowd-controlling, or using X amount of one skill…there are a variety of conditions that will play into activating your ace in the hole: your Avatar’s Super ability. Once you’ve unlocked it, you can windmill slam it onto the battlefield and hit your enemy with the force of a thousand suns, a galactic piledriver to knock the “im” off of “immortality”, perfect for getting the upper hand in battle against other Divines in the Arena or the Corrupted Godlings of Chaos.
So that just about covers what you can expect from a typical battle in Apeiron! Sound epic? Of course it does! Every fight in Apeiron will be strategic and fast-paced: you’ll need to look at how your Apostles are positioned, where the enemy Apostles are, your Avatar and team and the opponent’s, and what skill cards you have in hand and make the best judgement on the situation. Easy enough to pick up, damnably challenging to master.
We should stress again that we’ll be iterating upon our combat system to find that perfect blend of strategy and action, so don’t be surprised if you see some changes in the upcoming months. And let us know what you think about it: are you excited to try out Apeiron’s combat? What kind of team are you planning on building? Are you going to be climbing the ranked ladder in PvP or collecting more Apostles from the PvE Dirac Sea endless dungeon? Join us on social media and tell us what you think!
Thanks for reading, Godlings! We’ll be back next week with a couple more exciting announcements. See you soon!
