Ever since we here at Foonie discovered them, we have always loved playing god games. We remember how excited we were when we first summoned the volcano in Populous, or when our first pet learnt to cast miracles in Black and White, and how good and evil were reflected by the player’s actions in the game world — hats off to Peter Molyneux. It is a magical experience, playing at being divine — for us, it was unforgettable
Yet god games have by and large disappeared over the last couple decades of the 21st century. So when we first decided to move into the game industry, we knew it was our ultimate goal to revive the god game genre. Still, god games are not easy to make. Their production and game design frameworks are complex — fitting, considering they want to give you the feeling of being a god. Gathering the necessary manpower, talent, and capital required to produce such a game is no easy task.
After several years gaining experience with the industry and growing our team, we felt close to being able to achieve our goal, but there was still — something missing. Then came the introduction of blockchain games, and all of a sudden it felt like all of the dots were beginning to connect. By reshaping the link between players and developers — through the power of crowdfunding and play-to-earn gameplay — the blockchain offers a new avenue to produce the kind of grand-scale adventures we’ve always dreamed of.
Living, breathing planets that you can shape with elemental miracles, bringing back that classic god gameplay, combined with the exciting strategy and story of a roleplaying action-adventure. A universe owned and created together with the players. An integrated metaverse with the technological foundations to endure and expand beyond themselves. This was the spark we needed, and from it: Apeiron was born.
